The story of Tranns Harkin's life begins with the story of her parents. All three of them. Her mother was Amanda Harkin, a princess from Hyrule who, while a beloved and kind figure of nobility, suffered from mood swings that left palaces reeling for days on end. Her father was Artem Barr, the young monarch of the Calatia who struggled to reform his kingdom, while still finding himself bound by tradition. Her dad, who she credited most for making her the person she grew up to be, was Sir Jono, a high-ranking knight of Hyrule.
In the years leading up to Tranns' birth, the kingdoms of Hyrule--inhabited by Hylians--and Calatia--inhabited by humans--struggled to form a stable peace. As a part of the solution, it was decided that the heir to Calatia, Artem Barr, would marry a Hylian princess, Amanda Harkin. The arrangement was pleasing enough to both parties. What quickly proved problematic was the expectation that Calatian kings would have multiple wives. Once his marriage to Amanda was arranged, Artem's father proceeded to arrange additional marriages for him, all within Calatian nobility. Neither Artem nor Amanda were happy about this, but there was little they could do.
Amanda became Artem's first wife, but in the blink of an eye, he was married to five other young women as well, including Demora Esac who quickly became pregnant. It was declared that her child would be heir to Calatia. Amanda, jealous and resentful, acted out, beginning a torrid and very public affair with one of Hyrule's visiting knights, Sir Jono. A widower who lived by a code of honor, Jono did not approve of a man having multiple wives and was sympathetic to Amanda. At the same time, he sympathized with Artem, leaving all three of them very confused and crowded in the marriage. Stirred by passions, one night, Amanda convinced Jono to take her back to Hyrule with him. Against his better judgment, he agreed.
